Help with ladybug infested home!?
I'm in desperate need of advice on how to remove the ladybugs from my home. Recently I have found that some ladybugs had found their way into my home and decided that they wanted to cover a whole bottom portion of one of my bedroom walls. This was a little shocking to see at first because I'm just not used to seeing that many ladybugs in one place at a time. I got out my vacuum cleaner and sucked them all up but they just keep coming back from somewhere. Is there any way at all that I can make them not want to come into my home, like the way that mosquitoes are warned away by a certain sound frequency or smell? If it makes any differences in your answers, the ladybugs found are not the traditional red bugs you think of but are more orange/Yellow. My home is located in Kentucky, USA.
Had this same problem at our cabin.
First, we had to chaulk each and every nook and cranny. Seriously. It took about thirty tubes of chaulk. Steel wool is okay, but not necessary, and chaulking will benefit you in making your home more energy efficient.
The ladybugs are the Asian ladybug, by the way. They are not harmful, but they do leave their poop behind. Further, they do stink when you vacumn them up. They hibernate for the winter, they are trying to huddle together in a warm location, normally a Southern facing location (but not always). Most will die, some survive.
As for a certain smell or frequency that would repel them - nothing thus far. They are mighty in number and a great nuisance. They are prolific reproducers and have few predators, and unfortunately, are replacing the ladybug that we all knew and loved growing up.
The more you chaulk, the fewer you will have. Pesticides work also, but I would suggest a mild one however, around your windows and doorframes.
