Has anyone used Enfamil A.R. Lipil to help infant sleep better or longer?
Our eight week old daughter is having severe trouble falling and staying asleep for both nap time and at night. Has anyone found that by switching to a formula like Enfamil's A.R. Lipil (enriched with rice starch) helped your baby to sleep a bit longer or more soundly? We discovered the A.R. formula when looking for something to help with the spit-up and were excited to read that it contained the rice cereal. (We've heard that adding a thickening agent, such as the rice, keeps a baby's tummy full longer so they don't wake as often to feed.) Just curious! We'll ask our pediatrician before switching, but wanted to know if anyone had found this formula worked wonders for them. Thanks!
(And for those who will ask why I'm not breastfeeding, I simply wasn't able to. I would have used that as my first choice for feedings if it had been possible.)
Ask the doctor for sure. As a Neonatal ICU nurse we generally don't use formula like that except for kids that have problems with reflux, etc. If you are having sleeping issues, try this book: "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." by Dr. Marc Weissbluth. I swear by this book!!! I have a 15month old that has slept through the night 10-12 hours since 3 mos. thanks to some other mom's that recommended this book to me.
As for the feeding rice cereal to avoid night waking, I have seen several articles that claim that will not help and it can contribute to unecessary weight gain. Many of these studies change over the years though, so it's hard to gauge sometimes!!!
